RHEON™ for movement and energy control

RHEON™ remains soft, flexible and breathable in its natural state, stiffening up only in response to movement.

Strips of dynamic RHEON™ film are strategically placed across key areas of muscle or soft-tissue, offering targeted support to control movement and absorb energy.

Our advanced computational design techniques are used to create unique RHEON™ patterns, optimising their fit across specific muscle groups and body areas allowing support and control to be highly targeted.

This offers a significant move-on from relying solely on the compression of a garment for support in both sports and everyday wear – putting the comfort back into control.

How do we test RHEON™?

We carry out a range of testing, examining RHEON™ film executions across different materials and patterns to perfect the design and prove the technology.

Swatch test:

Testing data supports the energy absorbing and dynamic behaviour of RHEON™, with the RHEON™ laminated textile absorbing more energy than the baseline textile alone. As RHEON™ is strain-rate sensitive, the faster it is stretched, the more energy is absorbed. This means it absorbs more energy during higher intensity activities.

On-body test:

RHEON™ Technology is proven to reduce muscle acceleration of key muscle groups in the leg. The larger the muscle group, the more significant the damping effect of RHEON™. This is evident when comparing accelerations between the calf, hamstring and quad.  RHEON™ reduces circumferential accelerations which keeps the muscle aligned with the bone, increasing stability and kinetic efficiency. RHEON™ also absorbs non-productive energy, which reduces muscle ‘wobble’ and increases running efficiency.

Optimising sports apparel performance with RHEON™

RHEON LABS partner with sportswear brands including adidas, Decathlon and soar running, to bring optimised performance to a wide global audience of everyday athletes.

Our technology has also been used at the highest levels of sport – RHEON LABS was the technology provider for the Great British, French & Ethiopian athletics team kits created with adidas for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

RHEON LABS – The athletes choice

At the 2024 Olympics RHEON™ was worn on a number of medal wins for Team GB – Silver in the Men’s 400m & Men’s 1500m

and Bronze in the Men’s 4 × 100m Relay, Men’s 4 × 400m Relay & Mixed 4 × 400m Relay.

In other wins – Alexander Munyao claimed victory in the 2024 London Marathon wearing the adidas adizero Control x RHEON™ Techfit shorts.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a historic men’s world record at the 2024 adidas Road to Records, also wearing the same adizero racewear.

In 2025, Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 800m and 1500m double at both the European & World Indoor athletics championships in an adizero x RHEON™ sprintsuit.

17 year-old Australian sprinter Gout Gout broke the Australian 200m record in adizero x RHEON™ shorts.

Australian middle-distance runner Peter Bol set a new Australian 800m record also in the adizero shorts.

American ultra-runner Careth Arnold won the TDS race at the 2025 UTMB wearing the soar running x Altra running shorts, supercharged with RHEON™ technology.

In 2026 Josh Hoey broke the indoor 800m World Record in the adizero shorts.
